Cirque Du Soleil: Alegria (2001) isn't to be confused with the 1999 movie by the same name. THAT movie was merely inspired by the stage performance which this movie captures. Alegria is rather thin on plot, the power of watching the troop Cirque Du Soleil perform is in the magic of the circus, the acrobats, the lighting, the fantasy. Alegria means "joy" in Spanish and the basic story being told through the voices and antics of Tamir, Fleur, the clowns, the old birds, nymphs, and the like, is a story of people drawing upon their inner strength to change the old ways in society that oppresses us and others. It of course is done in a very magical Cirque du Soleil way, with stunning music and artistry, but it's basically a story of hope and a gentle prodding to a call to action and ultimately, to celebrate the joy in life.
