Pseudolus (Zero Mostel) is a slave in the Ancient Roman household of Senex. In this house live Senex, his wife, and their son, Hero (Michael Crawford). Pseudolus is determined to win his freedom no matter what. Learning that his young master, Hero, is in love with a girl in the neighboring house, Pseudolus offers to win the girl for him in return for his freedom. Unfortunately, the house next door is a brothel run by Marcus Lycus (Phil Silvers). The girl Hero is in love with, Philia (Annette Andre), has been sold as a virgin bride to Captain Miles Gloriosis (Leon Greene). In the house on the other side of the Senex household lives Erronius (Buster Keaton) who’s away most of the time searching for his long lost children. A comedy of errors ensues as Pseudolus tries to arrange for Hero and Philia to be together while keeping everyone else in the dark. Finally Gloriosis arrives to claim his bride. Hero and Philia run away, Gloriosis and his men give chase, and everyone ends up where they started from. It appears that Pseudolis isn’t going to win his freedom until Erronius arrives home and makes a startling announcement.
